On a rainy Saturday afternoon, Lewes welcomed Enfield Town to their home ground, ‘The Dripping Pan’, in an Isthmian League fixture. Lewes manager, Tony Russell made four changes to his starting XI following last week's FA Cup loss against Aldershot Town. Visitors Enfield Town will be looking to exploit any vulnerabilities in Lewes’ adjustments.
Lewes left-back Harvey Hughes opened the first half with an outside-the-box strike that was parried over the bar by Enfield Town’s Rhys Forster. The resulting corner was served by Bradley Pritchard towards the back post. Despite the ball falling slightly behind Arthur Penney, he managed to head it beyond the keeper's reach and into the net, giving Lewes a 1-0 lead.
Enfield Town retaliated with an attack orchestrated by George Sykes. Sykes collected the ball in the midfield and quickly distributed it out wide to Mickey Parcell, whose shot veered wide of the far post. Directly after this attack, Sablier found himself leading a Lewes counter-attack down the left flank. Using the outside of his boot, he played a curling pass across the face of the goal, finding Ogunwamide, whose shot was denied by a spectacular Rhys Forster save.
The second half kicked off with a strong start from Lewes. On the right, Tommy Wood passed the ball to Deon Moore, who quickly cut into the box and found the back of the net, increasing the score to 2-0 in the 58th minute. Deon Moore, hungry for another goal, struck another shot from distance, only to be denied by a diving Rhys Forster. Lewes seemed to have a firm control over the match, doing well to prevent chances as well as create opportunities of their own.
After an admirable spell of possession from Lewes, Wood received the ball on the right side of Enfield Town's box and played a weighted pass across the goal. Unfortunately for the Enfield Town, the pass took a heartbreaking deflection off a defender and found the back of their net. After 77 minutes of play, Wood was in possession once more at the top of the box. With an Enfield player tightly on his back, he sharply turned, giving him an inch of space to curl a shot into the bottom left corner. The match concluded at 4-0. The Lewes victory marked an impressive return to league football, sending a prominent message to their competitors.
